Safer Hands Health Initiative (SHI), in conjunction with the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch (MWAN Lagos), and HCA Consults, would be hosting the fifth edition of the SHI Maternal Health and Rights Summit in commemoration of the 2025 International Day for Maternal Health and Rights.
This year’s event, themed “Enabling Maternal and Child Healthcare Through Reinvention and Innovation,” will feature expert speakers, including Dr Chioma Nwakanma-Akanno, MD, HelpMum and Dobic Health; Dr Abosede Lewu, CMD ORB Women’s Clinic; Dr Costly Aderibigbe-Saba, Executive Secretary, UN Global Youth Consortium on FGM; Dr Godwin Oyewunmi, Founder, Gynix Afrika; Dr Mrs Ajoke Ashiru, President of Interfaith Forum Public Health Advocacy Lagos (IPHAL) and Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), Lagos State Chapter Volunteer Lagos State Chapter Volunteer; Dr Seyifunmi Abiodun, Health Tech Expert, Head of Operations, Healthtracka; Associate Prof. Omowunmi Bakare, Consultant Public Health Physician and Community Health Lecturer, Lagos State University College of Medicine, among others.
Scheduled to hold at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, on Friday, April 25, 2025, the summit will feature a theme lecture, plenary sessions, a mini-training session/ workshop, and abstract presentations.
According to a representative of a gold sponsor for the summit, MRH Collective’s Ms Chiamaka mentioned that the theme for this year is timely, especially in relation to the current state of maternal and child health in the nation. Which has led to the utmost interest of MRH Collective in the summit, as a way to continue seeking better means to improve maternal and child health.
Likewise, a member of the organising committee added “I’m excited about this summit, having been a part of it in previous edition. It’s great to see a space like this being created—where real conversations, innovations, and practical solutions can come to life.
