2022 List of Top Facilities for Healthcare Workers

0

Last year, Medical Mirror published the first review of the top list of facilities for health workers in Nigeria. This article got a good reception, and we thought it would be ideal to publish a list of the best facilities to work as a healthcare professional.

As healthcare workers, we look after the health of others; it is equally important that we pay attention to our own health as well. While most would think of health as purely physical, as we know from the WHO definition of health, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity”. Overlooking the ‘mental and social well-being aspect of this definition is quite common, but we know from several studies that these critical aspects can equally affect physical well-being.

The average person spends a third of their life at work; this is a large proportion of one’s life and shouldn’t be spent in a toxic environment. Following an article detailing workplace tyranny at a Nigerian startup, Nigerians went on Twitter to call out various atrocities that they had experienced in the workplace. This makes a review of workplaces very essential.

It is our hope that this list will help health professionals properly review potential workplaces and consider the work culture and other benefits prior to joining them.

In curating the list for the year 2022, Medical Mirror deployed an anonymous survey to health workers allowing them the opportunity to rate their workplaces on certain metrics as detailed in the results below. The Top ten facilities from this list have been listed.

Editor’s note:

Unlike the 2021 list, no public health facility made it to the top 10 of this 2022 list. Although, some notable ones were included on the full list. They include Federal Medical Centre Ebute Meta and some General Hospitals under Lagos State Health Service Commission. Also, the non-clinical practice facilities scored higher on all metrices, when compared to its clinical practice counterparts on the list.  This mirrors the defect and deficiency of our clinical practice, which might be due to different factors. But it also opens us up to the diverse possibilities and opportunities available for healthcare workers beyond clinical practice. Lead contributor: Olakunmi Ogunyemi
