Different seasons come with different health peculiarities. Hence, there are different healthy lifestyles required for all seasons. Specifically, this article would explore the healthy lifestyles for wet and cold seasons.
Physiologically, during exposure to cold, the body temperature is maintained by two mechanisms: the heat production and heat loss prevention.
Heat production is made up of different activities which include:
– increase in metabolic activity caused by cold stimulus to the hypothalamus center, and the sympathetic centers activated.
– Shivering caused by severe muscular actions and production of heat at a body temperature of 22 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit).
Prevention of heat loss on the other hand, is ensured by the heat gain center in the posterior nucleus of hypothalamus, which stimulates the sympathetic center in the posterior hypothalamus resulting in cutaneous vasoconstriction.
These mechanisms averts the extreme effects of exposure to severe cold, which is death, if remedy not provided promptly. Likewise, continuous exposure to cold can also lead to loss of body temperature regulation and frostbite.
Some of the common home remedy tips to survive the cold and wet seasons are:
– Wear thick cloth to keep your body surface warm
– Keep your indoors warm
– Eat healthy fruits and food
– Do exercises to warm up
These might sound cliché, but they sure do save lives and ensure good health.
